Autumn

leaf + trunk, 2013

Whilst I was living in the CBD I found the CBD drab and depressing. Decaying old buildings, dirty alleyways, empty lots, waste lands full of weeds and holes in the ground. It was a city in transition with the industrial past casting a long shadow. This industrial past was a form of life grown old. In 2012-3 Adelaide was a city suspended between an unrecoverable industrial past and a post-industrial future.

The industrial decay and grime was difficult to ignore. So I was glad when autumn came with its colours. Some could be found in Veale Gardens a couple of blocks from where we lived in Sturt St.

But not just in the Adelaide parklands. There were vines on office walls down little alleyways that I would walk through on my way to the Adelaide Central Market.

And the leaves in the gutter from the street trees.

The autumn colour was such a contrast to the decaying industrial form of life.
